About Wood Firing "Wood firing" is a traditional kiln firing method, reaching high temperatures of over 1200 degrees Celsius using firewood. It features "fire marks" naturally left by the firewood on the ceramic body, and the ash naturally falling from the burning wood, resulting in a warm and rich color variation in the works, a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to ordinary electric and gas kilns, wood firing, from stacking the kiln, ignition, sealing the kiln, to cooling down, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the high kiln pressure of wood firing, along with factors like climate humidity, wood dryness, human intervention in stoking speed, and kiln stacking position, can all lead to the success or failure of the work, with a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artists consider the kiln's airflow speed when stacking the kiln, planning the placement of works of different sizes, estimating the path of the flame, how to stoke wood and charcoal, and the degree of firing.
