All jewelry, regardless of material, is sensitive to moisture. Rain, sweat, perfume, bathing, hot springs, and chemical products can severely damage jewelry and cause oxidation. Jewelry can react with sulfur dioxide in the air over time, causing tarnishing (yellowing or blackening).
