Alishan Gentian, a Taiwan endemic species, painted button, decorative button

The name 'Gentian' (龍膽) literally means bitter. It grows in sunny, open areas above mid-to-high altitudes, on scree or in forests, blooming from April to September. Gentians are highly sensitive to sunlight; their flowers close when clouds or fog appear. According to a specimen collected by Takiya Kawakami on July 10, 1933, the location was Zhushan in the Alishan mountain range. However, it was actually collected en route from Alishan to Yushan, and is not distributed in Alishan itself. Handcrafted accessories featuring elements from original hand-painted watercolors.
