These are SDGs jewelry with Kintsugi, upcycled from pottery by Toshō Fukuoka, who creates pottery in Kumamoto Prefecture. Cracked or chipped ceramics that are no longer used are upcycled, finished with Kintsugi, and remade into accessories. The concept behind the work is to make nature and long-lasting Japanese traditions accessible, to transform them into modern accessories that connect to the future, and to create new possibilities. We paired deep green ceramic fragments with striking gold parts. They dangle elegantly with every step. The sides of the ceramic fragments are finished with Kintsugi, so the gold stands out even from the side, adding a touch of refinement. This work uses a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional Kintsugi which uses tree sap from the lacquer tree, this method uses adhesive for bonding.
