**Opal Care & Storage**
For opals or pearls, please be mindful of overly humid environments or drastic temperature changes. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation, please avoid contact with hot springs and baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents.
Opal is a delicate gemstone that requires a touch of moisture. Therefore, a desiccant is not included in the gemstone pouch. Like other gemstones, it should not be worn during baths or when visiting hot springs. Avoid using silver polishing cloths on opals; instead, gently clean them with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. We will provide a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the necklace clean and store it in the gemstone pouch.
For all-natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them during hot spring visits or bathing, as chemical substances can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Do not store jewelry in bathrooms or kitchens, as this can accelerate oxidation.
When not in use, sterling silver or gold jewelry should be protected from moisture and air. Gently wipe clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store in a PVC zipper bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from contact with other items or hard surfaces.
**About Opal**
Color is a fundamental attribute of most gemstones. Among the variations in color, the most significant characteristic of opals is their "play-of-color." Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "the gathering of the beauty of gemstones," is world-renowned for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The famed English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "a miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, displaying different hues from various angles, making each opal unique and highly collectible. Opal varieties include black opal, white opal (common opal), fire opal, and boulder opal.
Opals are composed of a silica sphere structure, invisible to the naked eye and only observable under an electron microscope. These color variations occur through diffraction and interference – a fascinating interplay of light and the microscopic structure, akin to a playful dance.
**Natural Stone Inclusions**
The natural stones used in NOW Design House are curated from collections worldwide, with each piece being unique, often resulting in a single product. These specially selected natural stones are presented to our clients, showcasing their color variations under different angles or lighting. Natural stones may contain internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If this is a concern, purchasing is not recommended. However, NOW products are guaranteed to exclude natural stones with surface impurities that affect the visible surface.
