Scarves are definitely my favorite accessory for autumn and winter. Even though I already have many in my wardrobe, I still buy new ones every year! Since falling into the vintage rabbit hole, besides bags and small accessories, I also keep an eye out for scarves. This is because vintage styles are more timeless, and the prices are always more affordable than modern pieces... Unfortunately, finding a vintage scarf in good condition and with a desirable aesthetic is much harder than finding a bag! After all, textiles are more delicate than leather and harder to maintain. So, I can only acquire a few vintage scarves each year... Therefore, if you're looking for a vintage scarf, don't hesitate if you find one you love, as it's almost impossible to find the same style or color again. ⚐⚑˒˒ This is a pure wool shawl scarf made in Italy. It's lightweight with a fine texture, not too thick, making it suitable for the climate in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Made in Italy, it features a dual-color design of khaki and grey-pink. Both sides are usable! The pink is a soft, muted tone, not overly bright. The entire scarf is covered in the Arc de Triomphe pattern! Although it's a vintage item, its condition is very good, with only a few very small, unnoticeable dot flaws. It shows minimal signs of wear, with no obvious snags, stains, or color bleeding issues, and no pilling. The original brand tag area is still intact. As everyone knows, branded scarves are generally not inexpensive, and Celine no longer offers this simple style in such a special color. Most vintage items from former times were handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before the prevalence of machines. The artisans of major brands were far more meticulous than any machine, with every step exquisitely detailed! Nowadays, most processes are mechanized, followed by manual assembly. Machine production lacks the same level of refinement. The most direct comparison can be made by looking at recent brand revivals of monogram patterns versus genuine vintage monogram prints from older eras; the level of detail in the monogram alone is vastly different. If you love monograms, seek out vintage pieces! Truly. In terms of style, older eras favored simple, timeless, and enduring designs. Many current new designs are actually remakes of older styles. However, new items are priced higher than vintage counterparts. Furthermore, new designs are typically based on older styles with added or altered elements. Consequently, the final designs tend to be more complex than those from older periods. As you grow older, you'll come to understand that simplicity endures! The material quality of older pieces is also superior to newer ones. If you understand leather, you'll recognize that the materials used in new items are often secondary to those from vintage pieces. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is high and supplies are limited today. In the past, many brands had exceptionally high standards for their finished products. The difference between new and old is most easily seen in the hardware. The hardware on many new bags oxidizes or discolors after just one or two years of use. Vintage pieces, however, rarely exhibit this issue. This is due not only to superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship but also because hardware from earlier eras was often plated with real K-gold! This is why vintage bags from as far back as the 1960s and 70s, when preserved to this day, still have gleaming hardware! Among the new products available today, to my knowledge, no brand uses K-gold for its hardware. Many people consider vintage bags a unique form of investment, as they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because well-preserved vintage bags are becoming increasingly rare in the market; each one that disappears makes them scarcer, driving up prices. Additionally, certain brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase tends to boost the market value of vintage pieces. Furthermore, with the recent popularity of vintage items among Japanese and Korean celebrities, the price of a piece skyrockets once an artist is seen using it. Or, if a brand releases a modified or remade version of a classic design, the price of the same or similar styles will surge! So, vintage truly offers an "early bird gets the worm" scenario; buy later, and the price will increase (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the vintage world...). This is based on personal experience; I regret not entering the vintage world sooner for many collections, as I can no longer find them, or if I do, the price is astronomical. Apply a small amount to genuine leather for cleaning and to restore its luster, but it's not necessary after every use; periodic maintenance is sufficient. As long as they are not used roughly and are stored properly, they can easily last another decade and be passed down to your daughter!
