Hsieh De-jin and Wu Hao were key figures who influenced Taiwan's modern painting movement and rural movement in the 1950s.
Shiy De-jin once wrote the article "Wu Hao's Self-Portrait" in Crown Magazine. The article mentions that Wu Hao lives in the suburbs of Taipei and is a soldier who works for the Mandarin Daily. He has a taciturn personality and doesn't show much emotion. One day a fire broke out at home, and his early paintings were burned. Wu Hao, who was originally calm, couldn't bear such a blow, so he could only sit on the ground and cry bitterly. Shiy De-jin drew Wu Hao who had nothing at that time into his works, and painted the moment when his friends were helpless and wandering and the lingering loneliness.
Shiy De-Jin, "Portrait of Wu Hao", 1971, oil on canvas, 117x91.5cm, authorized by the Shiy De-Jin Foundation, collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
