A glossy brown surface adorned with polka dots. The “Tsuyaku” soup cup adds chic elegance to your dining table.
Oumei Kiln, a traditional Koishiwara ware workshop in Fukuoka Prefecture, is beloved for its designs that blend the warmth of handcrafted work with modern living. This time, we introduce a brown soup cup featuring a beautiful, glossy glaze.
1. Deep Luster and the Charming Contrast of Dots
The entire piece is covered in a deep brown, glossy glaze reminiscent of caramel or coffee. The surface reflects light, creating a lustrous shine that makes food look even more delicious. Inside, brightly colored dots are scattered here and there, adding a touch of charm to the chic color scheme. Each sip of soup brings a warm, comforting feeling.
2. Beautiful glaze variations in the “shinogi” and traditional ‘tobikanna’
The vertical stripes (“shinogi” or carved pattern) on the exterior naturally pool glaze, creating rich color variations that give the piece a vibrant character. Turn it over, and you'll find the signature “Tobikanna” (chiseled pattern) around the foot (base), a hallmark of Koishiwara ware. Artisanal skill and attention to detail shine even in the unseen areas.
3. Generous Size for Versatile Use in Both Japanese and Western Settings
Holding approximately 300ml when filled to 80% capacity, its generous size is a welcome feature. Perfect for hearty soups like minestrone, morning café au lait, or cereal bowls, its deep, glossy hue also makes it a striking addition to the table when used for Japanese small dishes (simmered dishes, dressed salads, etc.). The stable handle, designed to comfortably fit your fingers, is another key point.
