Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC for short) is the main large-scale convention and exhibition venue in Hong Kong. It is located on the north shore of Wanchai, Hong Kong Island and is one of the landmarks of Hong Kong.
The first phase of the exhibition (commonly known as the "Old Wing") is located along Harbour Road, with a construction cost of HK$2.5 billion. It was opened on 25 November 1988 by the Governor Sir and Mrs. Sir David Wilson.
From 1994 to 1997, the second phase of the exhibition (commonly known as "New Wing") was expanded at a cost of HK$4.8 billion, doubling the building area. The second phase of the exhibition was built on an artificial island with an area of 6.5 hectares in Victoria Harbour. The roof of the second phase of the exhibition was made of 40,000 square feet of aluminum alloy and shaped like a bird. The 1st and 2nd exhibitions are connected by a 110-meter overhead walkway across the sea.
The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre hosts 7 of the largest exhibitions in Asia and 4 of the world's largest exhibitions every year, and has repeatedly won the honor of the best convention and exhibition center in Asia and the world.
