This small dish is crafted from red earthenware, offering a rustic texture and warmth, combined with a titanium matte glaze that creates a beautiful contrast between white and crimson. It was fired in a kerosene kiln at a pottery studio we are currently affiliated with, rather than our usual electric kiln at home. The firing process used was reduction firing, which creates an oxygen-deficient environment inside the kiln. This imparts a deep, nuanced character that cannot be achieved with an electric kiln. Measuring approximately 11.5cm in diameter, this is a slightly larger size for a small dish. It can be used as a side dish plate, a sweet plate, for serving small portions of dishes like dressed tofu or simmered burdock root, or as a condiment dish. Its earthy tones harmonize particularly well with ingredients born from the soil. We hope you enjoy it with a variety of foods. All stages of production, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are done by hand in our home studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production is not possible, each piece has its own unique expression, and you can enjoy the subtle beauty that comes from being handmade. The item you receive will be the same as pictured. The base of the dish has been sanded to minimize the risk of scratching your table. We are constantly exploring new combinations of glazes and clays, creating a variety of pottery in different colors and shapes. To address this, we apply a waterproof sealant to all our tableware before shipping, so there is no need for initial soaking (medome). This sealing process requires 2-3 days, which is why our shipping timeframe is set at 5 days from order placement. If you prefer not to have the sealant applied, please inform us at the time of purchase. - We strive to photograph and edit product images to be as accurate as possible. However, colors may appear differently depending on your monitor settings and lighting conditions.
