Hand-painted with natural raw lacquer, each piece undergoes a meticulous 72-layer process of hand-applied lacquer, polishing, and drying. This maturation process alone takes 3-6 months to achieve a subtle sheen, after which intricate painting begins. The result is a pen with visible brushstrokes and a rich texture, capturing the spirit and form of figures and animals with an expressive, freehand style, distinct from traditional meticulous brushwork. Beyond Mr. Mo's unique techniques, each stroke incorporates the Japanese Maki-e style, allowing its subtle textures to remain visible. Unlike ordinary lacquer pens with flat, uniform surfaces that lack brushstrokes, the Old Goat natural lacquer painted pens reveal the deliberate touch of each stroke, outlining the subject with vibrant lines. These are not merely static desk ornaments but complete works of art. Striving for excellence, these pens are not made in Japan or China, nor do they use chemical paints or printing. Old Goat is pioneering a new frontier in natural lacquer craftsmanship, creating a new domain for natural lacquer fountain pens through innovative methods. With exquisite artistry, it redefines the aesthetic of fountain pens as both usable and collectible. A fountain pen is more than just an instrument for enjoying the warmth of handwriting and the smooth glide across paper; a natural lacquer painted fountain pen is also a decorative art piece for your desk.
An original creation in the dark Gothic style of a moonlit ancient city, the artwork is filled with details worthy of careful admiration.
KAVALAN: 3952 Old Goat – named after an ancient place name in Yilan, Taiwan, this is the premium natural lacquer painted pen series. The pen is complemented by matte grey chrome-plated metal parts and a special spring-loaded clip design.
The nib is a German Bock #250 (#6) standard titanium nib (EF tip). Unlike common steel nibs, titanium nibs offer a softer, more flexible writing feel, providing a comfortable writing experience. If you require a different nib type or wish to convert it to a folding nib, please message the designer privately to confirm arrangements. (Note: Changing nib types may incur additional costs, with prices potentially increasing or decreasing.)
**Gift Set Includes:** German SCHMIDT K2 converter (ink not included) + one exquisite strap-style pen pouch (style shipped randomly) + 3952 Old Goat wooden gift box packaging.
**Pen Dimensions:** Approximately 149mm in length, cap diameter approx. 19mm, barrel diameter approx. 15mm, barrel with nib length 130mm, pen weight approx. 54 grams.
**Hand-tuned Calligraphy Nib:**
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to first dip the nib in ink and allow it to break in for a period before using a converter.
2. If the ink flow is interrupted when using a converter, check the angle at which you hold the nib. Both iridium points should land on the paper simultaneously; avoid writing with one side leading. If the ink flow is still interrupted, check if paper fibers or debris are stuck on the nib.
3. Remove the converter and try filling the pen with ink using the capillary action method (gravity fill).
4. Wash the nib first. If one iridium point is higher than the other, or if you apply excessive pressure while writing, it can cause misalignment of the iridium points, leading to scratching and paper debris accumulation in the nib slit.
5. Calligraphy nibs are created by shaping an EF nib into an arc. Line width variations are achieved not by pressing down, but by adjusting the writing angle and utilizing the nib's arc to create different line thicknesses. Holding the pen more upright reduces the contact area between the nib and the paper, resulting in finer lines. The more you tilt the pen, the larger the contact area, producing thicker lines. The ability to write both thick and thin lines depends on your proficiency and skill.
In support of environmental protection, we do not proactively provide paper bags. If you require one for gifting, please specify this in the order notes after purchase. Thank you.
Images are for reference only. The product is for a single pen. Some photos may exhibit slight color variations due to lighting and angles; please refer to the actual product.
**Note:** Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing the pen, do not leave the nib pointing downwards for extended periods.
**Warm Reminder:** When writing, avoid pressing down on the nib or writing with it skewed to one side (for right-handed users, it is recommended to hold the nib at approximately the 10 or 11 o'clock position). This helps prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium points, which can cause scratching and ink flow issues. The nib should be frequently rinsed with clean water to prevent ink blockage and maintain writing quality.
