| About the Original Artwork |
Created for Earth Day in 1990, as mentioned in "The Dharma Realm of Professor Yang Ying-Feng" by Chen Yi-Kai: "Concern for the realization of a pure land on Earth inspired Yang to create the stainless steel work [Ever-Green] for Earth Day in 1990, responding to the environmental movement through Buddhist thought. This was in collaboration with Hsinchu Fayuan Temple and the Jueh-Feng Buddhist Art & Culture Foundation for a series of lectures on 'Pure Lands' and an 'Environmental Root-Seeking Tour.' The driving force behind this initiative was Master Kuan-Chien, who resided at Fayuan Temple and was Yang's youngest daughter, Han-Heng, who had become a nun. This father-daughter collaboration on an environmental event was truly meaningful. Although he was a sculptor, his uniqueness lay in his love for life, his emphasis on ecological aesthetics, and his immersion in Buddhist teachings. To celebrate Earth Day in 1990, he used a composition of circular motifs surrounding a sphere to express the ceaseless movement of the Earth, titling the work [Ever-Green] as a symbol of the Chinese response to Earth Day. After the Earth Day event, [Ever-Green] was purchased by a southern developer and placed in front of the Liang-Mei Building (now Cathay United Bank) in Tainan City. This work was photographed on May 15th to November 15th, 1996, at the 'You-You. Yang Ying-Feng. Landscape Sculpture Special Exhibition' in Chelsea Harbour, London, England."
