His creations reveal a truth that is both amusing and tinged with cruelty, appearing childlike while actually offering the most precise observations and satirical commentary on everyday life. In Shrigley's lexicon, seriousness is not the opposite of humor; the opposite of humor is tragedy. Everyone experiences low points and dark moments, and sometimes, no matter what we do, we can't change things. It's better to find the humor in it. "Because a life without a sense of humor is tragic, and the ability to laugh is a luxury everyone can afford," Shrigley stated in an interview. His unique black humor, unparalleled wit, and endless surprises were fully showcased in his major 2012 exhibition "Brain Activity" at the Hayward Gallery in London. The following year, he was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize, with a prominent sculptural piece from the exhibition even being collected by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
