As this is a natural material, and the tanneries use vegetable tanning methods that cause minimal damage to the leather's texture, slight "scars," "wrinkles," and "vein marks" are unavoidable. We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing areas of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made using sewing machines; all stitching is done by hand. Before sewing, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitching holes into the leather. This technique allows for the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitches, distinguishing them from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Qie Xian Pai" has its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface. This is repeated 2-3 times, followed by a layer of edge wax. Finally, a burnishing tool is used to polish the edges until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Qie Xian Pai" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to dark, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water and wiped to remove any surface dust, further refining the color's uniformity. As the dyeing is entirely done by hand, there are subtle variations between the colors of each bag, making every piece unique.
