Mokume Gane, the Japanese character is written as "木目金" (もくめがね). This is a result of the ancient techniques derived from Japan, the process of forging swords. The knives used multi-layered non-ferrous metals to imitate the Chinese (Jun Zhu) lacquer technique, which applied the layers of paint to the vessel and then carved into the curved grooves of the fern-shaped vortex, revealing a continuous pattern of stripes of various colors.
