She is Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire and was awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to black women in the arts. As one of the leaders of the British Black Arts Movement, she has spent the past four decades expressing issues of personal and political identity through installations, paintings and prints.
