A relaxed half-day experience in a Chiang Mai valley,
using plant-based colors and recycled fabrics to create a sustainable handmade piece of your own.
All colors are derived from natural plants, making every dyed garment unique.
After the workshop, you can wear your creation home.
The class takes place in a small wooden cabin in a valley on the outskirts of Chiang Mai.
In the distance are forests and rolling mountains; nearby are rice fields,
and behind the cabin flows a clear stream.
On days with good weather, gentle sunsets often appear before the class ends.
This is a quiet place with no rush.
You are invited to slow down and follow the rhythm of life in the Chiang Mai mountains—
working, creating, waiting, drinking tea, and watching the sky gradually grow dark.
About This Workshop:
This is a beginner-friendly introduction to natural plant dyeing,
and also a hands-on exploration of sustainable living and creative practices.
All fabrics used in the workshop—
from the cotton and linen pieces for practice
to the final dyed garments—
are sourced from recycled and reused materials.
We do not pursue “perfectly new” materials.
Instead, we allow old fabrics to gain new life
through plants and time.
What You Will Learn:
You will learn:
• The basic principles and safety knowledge of plant dyeing
• How different mordants affect color variations
• A dyeing process that can be repeated in everyday life
Hands-on practice includes:
• One recycled cotton or linen fabric piece for practice
• One recycled cotton or linen vintage garment to complete a dyeing project
After the workshop, you may take home
your practice fabric and the finished garment you dyed yourself.
Optional customization is also available:
• Additional fabric or garments can be dyed for an extra fee on-site
• Dyed fabrics may be left with us to be made into items such as scarves, beanies, bonnets, headbands, or bags,
continuing their next stage of use
Quiet Time in a Chiang Mai Valley:
While waiting for your work to dry,
you can enjoy tea and casual conversation in the cabin,
take a short walk alone to explore nearby mountain paths,
or visit a nearby elephant café for a break.
Several dogs and cats live in the valley and are cared for regularly.
During the workshop, they often stay nearby quietly, offering a calming presence.
At times, you may also encounter elephants and their mahouts on walks—
a very ordinary part of daily life in the Chiang Mai mountains.
