Hanafuda is a tradition card game since 16th century. There are 48 cards into 12 months, each month with a representing flower.
October's flower is maple, the card describing the deer inside the maple woods. The slang term “shikato,” meaning “to ignore,” originates from the deer card in the October set of Hanafuda. It comes from the image of the deer on the card turning its head away. Since the deer (shika) on the “tō” (10) card is depicted looking away, the word “shikato” came to symbolize ignoring someone.
