Lanyu Marine Debris Buoy - Totem Edition Painted Ship's Eye Buoy A collaborative creation by <Little Island Art Class> and <Marine Debris Shop> Creator's Tribal Name: Si Misega Lanyu is a volcanic island with a predominantly rocky coastline, featuring fewer sandy beaches. Consequently, marine debris carried by ocean currents often becomes entangled in the reef areas. Our coastal cleanups with island partners, ongoing since 2012, have involved not only collecting marine debris from the shorelines of various tribal areas and sorting it into recyclable and non-recyclable categories. In recent years, we've specifically selected usable fishing buoys from the heaps of marine waste, cleaned them, and categorized them. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden on the island's already saturated landfill and to give new life to marine debris through regeneration and utilization. Each marine debris buoy has journeyed across the ocean from different regions, carried by the Kuroshio Current and other currents (for example, from places like Korea, China, Japan, etc. If you look closely, you can actually see different languages printed on each buoy). Due to variations in the buoys' materials and sizes, and the meticulous hand-painting process, each painted marine debris buoy is truly one-of-a-kind. With every purchase of a regenerated marine debris buoy, you will receive a postcard (as shown in image two) as a gift.
