Crafted from 100% mulberry silk spun-silk fabric, it offers a crisp, flowing drape while retaining a sense of depth and texture. The process begins with repeated plant dyeing using the root of the yam plant, initially yielding a reddish-brown hue on both sides. This is followed by covering the fabric with river mud, creating an AB color effect where the mud-covered areas turn black and the exposed areas remain reddish-brown. Once the mud is washed off and the fabric dried, the material is complete. This entire process is meticulously carried out by hand, involving over a dozen steps, or even dozens more depending on the desired style and intensity. It requires exposure to the intense heat of the summer sun. The river mud itself must be washed multiple times. Consequently, each roll of Xiangyunsha is limited in quantity, typically no more than ten to twenty meters. The manual nature of the process necessitates cutting the fabric into shorter lengths to accommodate these numerous steps. The entire sun-drying process for Xiangyunsha is intricate, involving stages such as preparing the silk, refining it, soaking it in yam root juice, drying it, repeating the soaking and drying multiple times, boiling the silk, repeatedly washing and drying it in yam root juice, boiling it again, repeating the washing and drying, boiling once more, drying completely, applying mud, washing, drying, misting, stretching, and finally storing. The sun-drying alone involves dozens of procedures, including three washes, nine boils, and eighteen drying sessions. It is precisely for this reason that each piece of Xiangyunsha is as unique as a leaf in a vast forest; no two are alike. The distinct traces of handcraftsmanship are evident, with the fabric exhibiting an irregular, crackled pattern. It feels smooth yet resilient to the touch, and exceptionally cool against the skin. Like a Zisha teapot, it benefits from human interaction; the more it is worn, the softer and more skin-friendly it becomes, and its luster intensifies. In past eras, a new Xiangyunsha garment would often be entrusted to a "servant" to be "nourished" for a period, until it became translucent, lustrous, and exceptionally soft, before being worn by its owner. "Cai Lang" (colored dyeing) is a later innovation by contemporary artisans. The black and reddish-brown hues have limitations in application, leading to the development of various colored dyes, including red, purple, and a spectrum of other colors, as well as numerous prints. Currently, black is my most favored. I once experimented with a black-blue, but have since exclusively used black. This involves an additional black dyeing process on top of the AB double-color base, resulting in a double-sided black effect. The two sides exhibit different sheens: the river mud-dyed side possesses a superior luster and a more refined texture, while the reverse side has a matte finish. These are truly remarkable pants. The exterior is an A-line wide-leg silhouette, exuding a quiet, textured elegance, akin to a free-spirited poem. Its structure is ingeniously concealed within. Featuring a comfortable elastic waistband with wide belt loops, perfect for threading a belt, the loops themselves boast a delicate detail. A drawstring at the waist is elegantly adorned with a single, artful floral print. The true highlight of these pants lies in their pockets, cleverly hidden within the side pleats. This design offers a fantastic versatility in silhouette: when standing naturally, the drape is smooth and elongating, creating a slimming effect. For a more commanding look, or to accommodate a wider hip measurement, simply slip your hands into the pockets and then remove them; the pants instantly adopt a more H-shaped silhouette. The side pleats, combined with the subtle white stitching along the sides, create an ethereal effect, a refreshing glimmer against the black. The generously cut legs exude a liberated, powerful aura, allowing for a confident stride. Paired with a structured, cropped top, they are exceptionally stylish. Black is cool and versatile, effortlessly complementing any outfit, possessing an inherent allure. Care Instructions: Hand wash gently; do not machine wash. Xiangyunsha requires specific care. Slight color bleeding upon initial submersion is normal. Do not soak; rinse once in clean water. Avoid laundry detergent; a small amount of baby bath wash can be used as a substitute. Do not machine wash, rub vigorously, or wring. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Please refer to the care label on the received item for precise instructions. Xiangyunsha fabric exhibits rich variations due to its handcrafted nature, which precludes technological uniformity. Therefore, variations in color depth, the presence of crackling patterns (unique to each piece), differences in luster intensity, and color discrepancies may occur to varying degrees. Slight color fading in the pants is also normal, and other unforeseen variations may exist.
