The Cryptomeria Cabin Storage Piece, conceived with the idea of "Where We Belong," creates a "home" for items that need to be returned to their rightful place after use. For a pen, for example, it’s where pens belong.
The series presents abstract house forms, utilizing finger joint construction. Some pieces aim to capture the characteristic staggered stacking of bricks, while others highlight the beauty of varying heights through the intentional protrusion of tenons. The primary technique involves the creative application of 3mm finger joints, precisely cut with a table saw and jigs, creating intervals of 3mm.
A place to return to is a "home," a place to "belong." Important items deserve a proper place, just as the pure intentions of the heart should be cherished. Through the repetitive process of creation, the artist behind Where We Belong sought to rediscover the initial inspiration that drew them to woodworking. The sentiment embedded within the work serves as a blessing for whatever will be placed within it.
