As a natural material crafted using minimal-impact vegetable tanning methods, the leather may naturally exhibit minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We carefully avoid these imperfections during the cutting process, or position them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are entirely hand-stitched, eschewing machine sewing. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch precise holes in the leather, enabling the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitch patterns – a key distinction from machine-sewn finishes. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather good with soul and a comforting tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before completion involves burnishing and finishing the leather edges. To achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges, "Cutting Line" employs a proprietary burnishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. Following this, a layer of edge wax is applied, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to polish the edges until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed items, "Cutting Line" uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To ensure even and natural coloration, the leather surface is initially dampened with water. Dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually deepening the shade until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is lightly wiped with a damp cloth to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is dyed by hand, subtle variations occur between the colors of individual bags, making every item truly unique.
