The Amis people are renowned for their pottery, an integral part of their daily lives, traditionally used for fetching water, rituals, and agriculture. Pottery making is exclusively an art form practiced by Amis women. Beyond distinctive headdresses, Amis attire is further embellished with numerous accessories, including necklaces handcrafted from shells and glass beads. These are often created using flat-stringing or double-needle weaving techniques to fashion a variety of colorful or patterned adornments.
The Amis culture traditionally features six significant motifs: Mother's Eyes symbolize maternal love and harmony, representing tribal unity; Hands Dancing Together signifies a bountiful harvest celebration; Ocean Waves reflect a life of fishing and hunting; Feathers represent warriors; and Heaven and Humanity United signifies the cosmos.
Drawing inspiration from the indigenous Amis people's pottery traditions, this piece innovatively transforms clay into adornments, creating a culturally significant long necklace accented with acrylic beads.
