Fire marks dance across the ceramic body, and ash fuses in the intense heat. These are not deliberate designs, but kisses left by time. The creation of a piece is dependent on the relationship between "clay, fire, wood, and kiln." Some aspects are controlled, while others are left to nature's decision. Wood-fired ceramics are generally divided into unglazed and glazed: Unglazed pieces showcase the rustic simplicity and breathability of the clay itself; Glazed pieces, under the action of fire, develop layers of intricate glaze variations.
