Curse beads unearthed from a collapsed pagoda in Mandalay.
These Dala curse beads are drilled and are in the form of prayer beads.
After returning to Taiwan, they have been cleaned to remove oxidized patina.
The maximum average diameter is between 0.9-0.95 cm.
Dating based on accompanying artifacts excavated from the pagoda suggests they originate from the 18th-19th century.
These prayer bead-style curse beads were typically part of a 108-bead string placed within pagodas. Due to the damp environment within the pagoda, the original cord has oxidized and disintegrated. After collection by antique dealers in Myanmar, they were brought back to Taiwan and are now sold as individual beads. We were fortunate to acquire some.
This second batch consists of 100 beads in total.
