Cultural Journey Design Bag - Yingge Style

The design process for the cultural journey messenger bag involved exploring neighborhoods, collecting streetscape imagery, and documenting through photography, all to immerse in the creative inspiration, emotional memories, and cultural context the city offers. After shooting in the Yingge area, seven photos were carefully selected, from which symbolic local colors were extracted to design seven corresponding styles. Yingge is renowned for its ceramics industry, with innovative designs visible everywhere along its old street. Linked with cultural and artistic walking tours, it cultivates a unique Yingge aesthetic. The colors of Yingge are primarily drawn from its pottery heritage, including the hues from shops selling ceramics, the texture of brick walls, the ambiance of popular tea houses and pottery workshops, and even distinctive spaces that preserve kilns. The aim is to convey the craftsmanship and humanistic side of Yingge through the colors captured in these photographs. The messenger bag is lightweight yet offers ample storage space. It features two compartments: the main compartment can hold a notebook, water bottle, or umbrella, while the front compartment is convenient for small items like pens or keys. Users can adjust the strap length for comfortable shoulder or crossbody wear, allowing for easy access to belongings while on the move. Each messenger bag includes an inner tag explaining the colors derived from the scenery and an attachable pencil case. The pencil case can serve as a storage pouch, and when the strap is rolled up, it can be secured using the cord at the top and the metal clasp at the end. The Yingge style features a khaki webbing strap with a Yingge-red side tag. The pencil case is a collaboration with a local embroidery manufacturer in New Taipei, featuring an exquisite embroidered regional name. The New Taipei City Cultural Foundation hopes to promote the historical development and industrial characteristics of various districts in New Taipei through field research, surveys, and the design of cultural journey items, integrating lifestyle aesthetics. By engaging with local communities, this initiative aims to re-examine the relationship with the community environment, thereby conveying the spirit of humanistic history and local industries, and bringing the unique landscapes of New Taipei into view.
