"Neriage" is a technique in which colorful clay that has been colored with pigments is kneaded together and patterns are created using the centrifugal force and the expansion and contraction of the clay when pulled on a potter's wheel. The patterns that are produced vary depending on how the clay is kneaded and the time and effort spent on turning the wheel, allowing you to enjoy the unexpected. Pigments come in a variety of colors, but when making these I chose bright colors like orange and yellow. I wanted to create tableware in vibrant colors that would stand out in the summer. If you bake it as is with a clear glaze, the colors will be very vivid and pop, but I wanted to make something a little more subdued, so I applied a cream-colored glaze, and it baked to a spicy color that reminded me of turmeric. Compared to other tableware that uses the same color pigment, this color is more suitable for cooking. Colourful vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, zucchini and peppers stand out beautifully. I use a small electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel at home to make my pottery, and I do all of the processes by hand, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing.
