First introduced in the 1907 publication *The Tale of Tom Kitten*, Tom later appeared in *The Tale of Samuel Whiskers*. The stories set at Hill Top Farm also feature characters from several other popular tales, including Tom's sisters Moppet and Mittens, Mrs. Tabitha, and Jemima Puddle-Duck. The popularity of the tale of the kittens' attempts to stay clean for their mother’s guests was such that, in June 1917, a picture book titled *The Tale of Tom Kitten* was published.
This is the first official coin to feature Tom Kitten from The Royal Mint, presented in a Royal Mail presentation pack with a certificate. This is one of a limited edition of 2000, and this coin is numbered 1511. This 925 sterling silver coin vividly brings the mischievous character to life, with Tom's fur and ill-fitting clothes highlighted through colour printing, while the coin’s texture is further enhanced by its proof finish. A booklet detailing the story of this naughty cat and his adventures is also included.
