At that time, Russian Jewish immigrants Michael and Joseph Chernow founded their company in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. They named their company Monocraft Products Co. The Chernow brothers worked under this name for ten years, producing their first jewelry pieces in 1929. It is not definitively known what motivated the founders to eventually name their jewelry Monet. Perhaps they admired the works of Impressionist painters like Edouard Manet and Claude Monet. The Chernov brothers' brand, Monet Jewelry, made its debut in 1937. This brand is not only known for its particular fondness for "vintage" style. With the help of Monet's masters, several revolutionary inventions related to the technical aspects of fashion jewelry were developed, which, incidentally, are all patented. For example, they developed post earrings for pierced ears, rather than clip-ons. Additionally, the creation of a new type of clasp for Monet earrings was a significant innovation. The company also patented a "barrel" clasp for necklaces. Metal craftsmanship became the hallmark of the Monet brand, with creations featuring various textured metal lace jewelry. Monet jewelry primarily used precious metals, and many items were crafted from sterling silver using innovative methods, marked with "Monet Sterling."
