About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional kiln firing method, burning at high temperatures above 1200 degrees Celsius with wood. It features 'fire marks' naturally left by the firewood on the ceramic body, and the natural ash from burning firewood, resulting in warm and rich colors and variations that electric or gas kilns cannot achieve. Compared to general electric and gas kilns, wood firing, from loading the kiln, ignition, to sealing the kiln and cooling down, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the high kiln pressure in wood firing, along with factors like climate humidity, wood dryness, human speed of stoking, and kiln loading position, can all lead to the success or failure of the work, with a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artists consider the kiln's airflow speed when loading the kiln, planning the placement of different sized works, estimating the rising fire path, how to stoke wood and charcoal, and the degree of firing.
