Woven owl necklace

The owl, known as the "spirit bird" by the Bunun people, is a symbol of wisdom and good fortune in many cultures. For the Bunun, the spirit bird is a harbinger of children and a god of luck. An aunt from the tribe told me that if an owl is heard hooting on someone's roof, a wife in the household will become pregnant, and anyone in the family who goes hunting will return safely. This isn't just a legend; many indigenous tribes in Taiwan still hold similar beliefs. When I, in my early twenties, returned to live with my tribe and became pregnant with my second child, my neighbor mentioned hearing an owl hooting a few nights earlier, wondering which family's daughter-in-law was pregnant. At the time, I had only recently tested positive for pregnancy, and only my family knew.
