About the creation process.
Starting with a sketch, the clay is molded, allowed to dry slightly, and shaped through repeated steps. We create enough to fill the kiln evenly over about a month. Bisque firing takes 7 hours, after which the pieces are removed, wiped with water, and individually glazed before the main firing of 12 hours. Some pieces receive a gold glaze and are fired again for another 7 hours. As they require slow cooling, we wait about two days after each firing before removing them from the kiln. Finally, each piece is inspected by hand, and pins are attached to those that meet our standards. Currently, our success rate is around 70%.
Though this process takes considerable time and effort, the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the durability of pottery, the luster of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents.
We believe this is a piece that can be cherished for a long time, unchanging.
