X888:3952 Old Goat - A rustic and grand design, featuring perfect balance for comfortable writing.
Carefully selected [Desert Ironwood] with a high-definition, high-gloss finish
Every piece of wood possesses unique natural grain and color. Old Goat fountain pens use strictly selected high-quality wood, refined through meticulous processing and surface treatment to reveal the deep luster and texture of the natural material.
High-definition, high-gloss is a surface treatment process that emphasizes precision and time.
During production, a clear protective lacquer is applied repeatedly, followed by multiple meticulous sanding and polishing steps. This allows the clear lacquer to fill the natural pores and micro-indentations on the wood surface layer by layer. After dozens of repeated applications and sanding, a smooth, delicate, and substantial high-gloss surface is formed.
This intricate process not only makes the natural grain clearer and more vivid but also brings out the depth and dimensionality of the wood. The completed pen body presents a warm, rich luster reminiscent of wood trim in a luxury vehicle, where light dancing across the surface highlights the unique beauty of the natural wood.
Beyond aesthetics, the high-gloss surface provides excellent protection for the wooden body, reducing the impact of hand sweat, stains, and ink contact during daily use, making cleaning and maintenance easier.
Natural wood grains are unique, ensuring every pen is one of a kind.
The high-definition, high-gloss process requires more labor and time, resulting in higher production costs. Old Goat insists on this detailed approach to showcase the natural beauty of the wood, transforming a fountain pen into more than just a writing tool, but a piece of craftsmanship to be savored.
The fountain pen is paired with chrome-plated metal components, a screw-on airtight cap, and a spring-loaded clip.
Desert Ironwood is a leguminous shrub (small tree) that grows only in the deserts from the southwestern United States to northwestern Mexico. Due to the harsh and arid environment, Desert Ironwood grows slowly, taking hundreds of years to reach maturity, with a lifespan of up to 2,000 years. For plants growing in the desert, drought, soil barrenness, and sun tolerance are essential; the wood is naturally as hard as iron. Due to the harsh environment and slow growth, it is dense and heavy, capable of sinking in water. To the local indigenous people, it is a rare and premium material for furniture and fine carvings. Desert Ironwood is internationally used for custom knife handles, high-end handmade fountain pens, crafts, and musical instrument accessories, serving as a symbol of high quality.
The pen uses a German BOCK #250 (#6) standard titanium nib, which is manually crafted and adjusted by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib capable of varying line widths, capturing the unique charm of calligraphy. The writing feel is distinct, offering more flexibility than standard calligraphy steel nibs.
**Included with your purchase: German SCHMIDT K2 converter (no ink included) + one handmade black genuine leather pen sleeve (style selected at random) + 3952 Old Goat wooden gift box.**
Pen dimensions: Total length approx. 150mm, length of pen body with grip approx. 105mm, maximum diameter (excluding clip) approx. 17mm, total weight (excluding nib) approx. 50g.
Hand-ground calligraphy nib guide:
1. It is recommended to first practice writing by dipping the nib in ink (do not remove the converter installed in the barrel to prevent ink from flowing back into the barrel). Once you have adjusted to the character of the nib, you may proceed to use the converter to draw ink.
2. The calligraphy nib is modified from an EF nib into a curved shape. Line variation is achieved not by pressing the nib, but by the angle of the pen. Use the curve of the nib tip to create thickness. Holding the pen at a steeper angle reduces contact area, resulting in finer lines. A lower angle or slightly more pressure increases contact, creating bolder lines. Mastering the variation depends on practice. (Each nib has a threshold for pressure; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment. It is recommended to place a writing mat under your paper.)
To promote environmental sustainability, we do not provide paper bags by default. If you need a gift bag, please note your request when placing the order. Thank you.
Photos are for reference only; items are sold individually. Due to lighting and angles, slight color variations may occur; the actual product is the standard.
Note: Periodically clean and maintain the interior of the pen body and cap. Do not store the pen with the nib pointing downward for extended periods.
Gentle reminder: Do not apply heavy pressure or write at extreme sideways angles (for right-handed users, it is recommended to point the nib at the 10 or 11 o'clock position) to avoid misaligning the iridium tip, which can cause scratching or ink flow issues. Regularly rinse the nib with clean water to prevent clogs.
