Mikage clay, known for its milky tea-like reddish-yellow color and speckled texture. This rice bowl was made using this rustic yet deeply characterful clay. The upper half of the bowl is adorned with a brushed pattern using white slip, all finished with a simple transparent glaze. Its unpretentious texture and feel, reminiscent of whole wheat biscuits, make it a perfect pairing for mixed grains and seasoned rice dishes. Imagine it with spring's mixed vegetable rice, summer's corn rice, autumn's mushroom rice, or winter's sweet potato rice. We hope you'll enjoy it with a variety of rice creations. Each piece is handmade from start to finish, including clay preparation, shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, using a small electric kiln and potter's wheel in my home studio. While mass production isn't possible, each bowl possesses its own unique charm and character for you to appreciate. Due to the nature of the clay, these bowls are crafted to be slightly heavier than others. The item you receive will be the exact piece shown in the product images. Please note that small imperfections such as minor stone explosions or hairline cracks (that do not affect usability) and slight unevenness may be present due to the coarse clay particles. We hope you'll embrace these as part of the clay's natural charm. Any rough spots on the base or areas that might catch on your fingers have been smoothed with sandpaper as much as possible. Therefore, we apply a waterproofing treatment to all ceramic pieces before they are sent to you. With the waterproofing treatment applied, there is no need for a preliminary soaking (mezoma) at home. You can use the bowl immediately after a light rinse upon arrival. Items already treated will be shipped within 3 days. Pieces requiring treatment after an order is placed will be shipped within 5 days. ・Waterproofing agent name: Flip Coat ・Effects: Enhances waterproofing and moisture resistance, reduces penetration of oils and acids, minimizes stains and soiling, prevents cracking due to freezing, inhibits mold and algae growth, prevents penetration into crazing. ・Characteristics: Water-soluble, colorless, odorless, non-flammable, weakly alkaline.
