It is useful for dishes with liquids, such as stir-fries. Beyond its ability to scoop, it is exceptionally comfortable to hold and easy to use. The shape and thickness of the tip, along with the gently curved handle, have been hand-carved into a shape that is easy to grip—neither strictly oval nor angular. The third photo shows the back side of the spatula section, and the fourth photo shows the tip of the handle. While subtle at a glance, faint traces of chisel marks remain on both the surface of the spatula and the handle, conveying the care and warmth of handiwork. There is no sense of roughness or excessive thickness; it is simply carved and shaped, offering a comfortable fit in the hand. It is the kind of wooden spatula you will find yourself reaching for time and time again, even if you already have several in your kitchen. Produced by Shin Miyazaki of "Jamunchi," a woodworking studio in Osaka. He freely combines various processing methods and finishes depending on the wood used and the item being created. His work—from the carving process to the final finish—is truly meticulous and refined. In commissioning this piece, he provided various advice and suggestions regarding wood species and finishing methods, allowing us to have it crafted in a style unique to PINT. We have had Jamunchi’s popular scooping wooden spatula made in three different wood species. From the left in the fifth photo, the three types are teak, ash (tamo), and cherry. Teak has a deep color, ash is whitish, and cherry has a slight reddish hue. The finish is unpainted. As you will likely use oil in your cooking, the wood will naturally absorb cooking oils over time. We hope you enjoy this transformation and begin using it with the intention of "nurturing" it from scratch. Each of the three wood species is available for both right-handed and left-handed use.
