This white porcelain, which does not rely on blue-and-white sometsuke or colored enamels and instead showcases a stark, pure white, is a rarity nationwide. It is affectionately known as "a white that is too white" and "the quintessential porcelain." It has also been designated as a National Traditional Craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Each piece is handcrafted by a ceramic artist, resulting in an almost translucent, exceptional whiteness. This, combined with the lightness and smooth texture unique to porcelain, will add a touch of luxury to your everyday lifestyle.
[About the Wind Chime]
Today, wind chimes are treasured as items that bring a sense of coolness during the summer. However, they have a long history, with origins said to be in China. They are believed to have started as a tool for divination called "senfutaku," used to foretell good or bad fortune based on the sound of the wind. Later, this was introduced to Japan under the name "futaku," taking on the meaning of a charm to ward off evil for those living within earshot.
The sound of a wind chime varies depending on the material, and those made of porcelain produce a soft and beautiful tone. Please enjoy the unique sound of this artisan-crafted piece.
[The paper strip features 'Sugiharagami']
"Sugiharagami" is a traditional Japanese washi paper still made today in Taka, a town in central Hyogo Prefecture, using time-honored techniques. It was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Property of Hyogo Prefecture in 1983 and designated as a Prefectural Traditional Craft in 1995. Made from 100% kōzo (paper mulberry) and entirely handmade, it uses no bleach or other chemicals, giving it a natural whiteness and a gentle texture unique to handcrafted items.
