Dalongdong is an area in north Taipei centered around the beautiful Bao-an and Confucius Temples. Before Taipei surrounded it it was a small village and there are several remnants of that settlement left today. In 2014 I began to draw a modern map of the area, however it remains incomplete. One early morning, during the first summer of the pandemic, I took a walk around the area. Initially I was checking a few things so I could restart the modern map. But as I walked around I decided I wanted a close up view of the streets too. A few years before I’d visited the about to be demolished Lanzhou Housing and I wanted to ink the cage covered walls there as a memory of that exploration. A solitary plane landed at Songshan during my walk, a reminder of more normal times, but otherwise the streets and skies were empty and quiet. Usually you only catch glimpses of the planes through buildings and powerlines, so I re-created that here
