Naoko Nakanishi
A renowned illustrator and culinary artist from Japan. She is known for her charming illustrations featuring animals, characterized by their simple and innocent style. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Ms. Nakanishi wished to contribute in her own way. A friend suggested she draw a picture each day as a gift to comfort those affected by the disaster, whose hearts were struggling to heal from the trauma. Over time, these artworks culminated in a series of touring exhibitions across Japan in 2013.
The tabby cat, BonBon, is a character Ms. Nakanishi began creating in 2007 and is a frequent subject in her work. This brown tabby cat enjoys visiting markets, cooking, and traveling. BonBon comes alive on the various papers Ms. Nakanishi uses, bringing to life a humorous and engaging personality that often brings a smile and a moment of forgetfulness to worries.
