Vegetable tanning is the earliest tanning method, using tanning agents derived from plant components like tannic acid. The process involves repeatedly soaking the hide in tanning solutions of varying concentrations, taking one to two months. Vegetable-tanned leather is free from harmful chemicals like heavy metals, making it safe for direct skin contact, and it retains the leather's natural texture.
