Random House published both a 1946 color edition and a 1965 black and white edition. The slipcases for both editions are quite similar, but the book covers show a clear difference: the color edition features colorful illustrations, while the black and white edition has only simple line patterns. The illustrations within the books use the original 1865 illustrations by John Tenniel from Lewis Carroll's first edition of Alice. The coloring was undertaken by the renowned German artist Fritz Krefeld. Fritz Krefeld's color palette breathes life into the narrative, allowing readers to envision more vivid scenes as they read. The vintage color scheme further enhances the sophisticated feel of this antique set. The 1965 black and white edition did not involve Fritz Krefeld, possibly due to copyright issues. Thus, the reissued version lacks color. While the original text and illustrations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are no longer protected by copyright, allowing anyone to use them, the colored version belongs to Fritz Krefeld and thus presents copyright considerations.
