This trip to Kyoto brought so many wonderful people and experiences. It not only reminded me of the joy of living well but also showcased the ancient capital's deep respect for and innovation in traditional culture and craftsmanship. What captured my heart at first sight were the coin purses made by kimono artisans themselves. Mr. Nakamura, a gentle and distinguished master, has retired from kimono making but continues to craft coin purses designed with kimono fabrics he has cherished his entire life.
【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】
The spirit of dedication, poured into every detail and material choice, is fully evident. This piece features the rare 'Oshima Tsumugi'. This kimono textile from Oshima Amami, Japan, is made by first dyeing silk threads with mineral mud, then weaving them into fabric. The process is complex, involving twenty to thirty steps, and today, only a handful of artisans continue this tradition, making it increasingly scarce. In Japan, it's exclusively used for high-end kimonos.

'Oshima Tsumugi' is characterized by its understated, refined patterns with low saturation, making it very pleasing to the eye and ideal for modern daily wear. Carrying this bag makes a statement – both retro and chic. Unlike the overly flashy or vibrant patterns found on ordinary fabric bags, you won't have to worry about having the same bag as someone else. Even small accessories, when made with superior materials, reveal a discerning taste in personal style. The artisan also advised, "Please use it gently; the texture will become even softer with time."

One can truly say that Kyoto residents appreciate fine things! It's no wonder they take pride in their city. We are grateful to the artisan for agreeing to specially craft a batch for us. I must be honest: compared to the wide variety of coin purses available elsewhere, the initial price might seem a bit high. At first, I was simply drawn to its appearance, not paying much mind to the premium kimono fabric, and took the exquisite clasp for granted. However, after receiving and actually using it, I understood the true value. With every opening and closing, I can't help but marvel, growing more fond of it the more I look. If you have the chance to own one, you'll understand what an art-piece quality coin purse is. It will surely inspire you to collect more!
