Because it is very thin, we use a technique called backing to attach it to the washi paper to prevent wrinkles and sagging and to reinforce it. Handmade Japanese paper allows the ink to take on beautiful colors and adhere well, and is perfect for the colors and atmosphere you want to express. I make my own ink by mixing Japanese painting pigments called suikan pigments with glue. I enjoy the process of rubbing ink onto paper while always imagining colors that can only come out at that moment.
