When it comes to "monogram" patterns, LV is undoubtedly the most recognized. However, CELINE's monogram logo actually predates LV's! CELINE's monogram dates back to the 1870s. It was later discontinued for a long period and only recently revived by the latest creative director. However, who came first in the fashion world isn't really that important. Look at how LV, despite appearing later, dominated the monogram scene for so many years and remains strong. Although CELINE's monogram is a senior, it's only in recent years, with the复刻 (revival) of modern styles, that it has gained widespread recognition... In essence, every brand has its own "monogram." It's akin to their logo. There's no precedence, no superiority. It primarily depends on which monogram pattern you personally prefer. Before the revival of modern styles, Celine's monogram was a subtle gem in the pre-owned market. This was due to its classic pattern, timeless color palette, wide variety of bag styles, and affordable prices. Sadly... all that is in the past. Once revived, the prices of virtually all monogram bags have been driven up, especially those closely resembling modern styles, which have seen prices skyrocket. Yet, even with increased pre-owned prices, most vintage styles are still significantly cheaper than modern ones, offering exceptional value for money. This is why many women who have never owned a pre-owned bag have entered the vintage world because of the monogram! (Prices truly range from affordable to expensive). I feel Celine's monogram perfectly embodies the saying "new is not as good as old." The level of detail in the pattern alone shows a clear difference. The monogram pattern on the revived new styles is enlarged, but the edges are noticeably blurred (perhaps by design!?). With vintage monogram, even under a magnifying glass, you won't find obviously fuzzy edges. Of course, this is also due to different eras and design needs. In recent years, brands have leaned towards larger and larger patterns, emphasizing them more. It's either a big LOGO or a big brand name. Regardless, I personally prefer the fine, intricate arrangement and exquisite pattern of older styles (and smaller patterns are easier to match with outfits). Another key feature of older monogram styles is their excellent water resistance! The monogram leather has a coating that offers light protection against splashes and stains. Basic light rain (heavy downpours are another matter... stay indoors during heavy rain and don't take your bag out!) or accidental water spills can be easily wiped away with a paper towel or cloth! So, if I need to go out in the rain, I'll casually grab a monogram bag. You don't have to worry too much about being rough with monogram leather (though excessive force is still not advised)! For everyday use or for those who tend to be a bit rougher, monogram bags are a great choice because they are truly convenient and can be easily paired with a simple T-shirt and jeans. Celine is now part of the LV group, so the new styles we see have a unified, group-like feel. There's a "urban legend" that everyone who buys pre-owned bags must have a Celine in their collection because its vintage styles are so numerous and less likely to be duplicated. (Personally, I don't think new styles can compare to vintage ones because the craftsmanship and material quality of new items are vastly inferior. You can easily find complaints online about the poor quality of new items from major brands...) ⚐⚑˒˒ The bag is in excellent condition. This "rice flower" (beige) color is incredibly rare, and I've finally managed to restock one! Among the beige ones, this is my favorite style. The small "tofu bag" shape is super cute when worn. Beige usually costs a bit more and is harder to find than brown. The front and back of the bag show no scratches, scuffs, or cracks. The entire monogram coating is intact and clean, with no discoloration on the "rice flower" pattern. There are minor signs of use on the leather at the bottom, edges, and corners, but the leather is a consistent brown and doesn't look worn out. There are no particularly noticeable scuffs or peeling on the bottom, edges, or corners, and the tips of the corners are also intact. It's very well preserved! The interior lining is clean with no peeling. The leather tag is intact. There's a small zippered compartment with a smooth zipper. The shoulder strap is original, with a natural, light honey-wax color and even tone. It shows some light signs of use overall but is completely intact with no peeling or significant wear. It's adjustable (I can add extra holes if needed). The adjustment buckle shows signs of use, but it remains golden overall, with only slight oxidation visible at the edges upon close inspection. The most important part, the horseshoe clasp, is very golden, with only a bit of oxidation on the bottom edge. There are no other scratches or significant discoloration; it shines brilliantly. The leather on the front has a slight indentation, and the orange-colored buckle on the front and the two next to it show some paint peeling. This is a common sign of wear for this particular style. The stitching throughout the bag is strong and secure. Overall, the bag is in good condition, showing light signs of use. When worn, the "rice flower" pattern is very clean. It comes with its original dust bag! This small tofu style is becoming increasingly difficult to find. After this one, who knows when I'll be able to restock another! Most pre-owned items from the past were handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before the age of machines. The artisan skills of major brands were many times more meticulous than machines; every step was exquisitely crafted! However, most processes today are machine-made and then assembled by hand. Machine-made parts lack the same level of detail. The most direct comparison can be made by looking at the monogram patterns on recently revived styles versus the authentic monogram on older vintage pieces. The level of detail in the monogram pattern alone is entirely different. If you love monograms, you must seek out pre-owned items! Truly! In terms of style, older eras featured simpler, timeless, and enduring designs. Many current new styles are actually revivals of older designs. However, new styles are priced higher than older ones. Furthermore, new designs are typically based on older styles with added or altered elements. Ultimately, the designs become more complex than those of the past. I believe as we grow older, we understand one thing: the simpler, the more enduring! The quality of materials in older styles is also superior to new ones. Anyone knowledgeable about leather can tell that the materials used in new models are mostly inferior to older ones. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is too high and their supply is limited. Additionally, many brands had very high standards for their finished products back then. The difference between new and old is most easily seen in the hardware. The hardware on many new models oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two of use. However, older models typically do not, not only due to high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship but also because the hardware from earlier eras was plated with real K gold! Therefore, even vintage bags produced as early as the 60s or 70s still have shining hardware today! Among the new products available now, to my knowledge, none of the brands use K gold for their hardware. Many people say that vintage bags are a form of alternative investment. They rarely depreciate and usually appreciate in value. This is because the number of pre-owned bags in good condition on the market is decreasing, and with each one that disappears, they become rarer. Thus, they become more expensive. Furthermore, certain brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase drives up the market price for pre-owned items. Additionally, with the recent popularity of vintage items among Japanese and Korean celebrities, the price of a specific model can skyrocket once a celebrity is seen with it. Or, if a brand releases its own modified revival, the price of that model, or even similar styles, will surge directly! Therefore, Vintage is truly a case of "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the pre-owned world...). This is based on personal experience; I regret not getting into the pre-owned market earlier for many series... I can't find them now, and even if I could, the price is astronomical, making them unaffordable... With every pre-owned bag order, I include a leather care oil (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). I use it myself, so I decant a small amount into a container as a gift. Apply a small amount to genuine leather for cleaning and to add moisture, but you don't need to apply it after every use. Just periodically. I usually take the opportunity to care for my bags when I'm organizing my closet at the change of seasons (which makes seasonal changes a big undertaking... |||).
