It was heated, hand-sawed, and hand-smithed to rectangle shape with desired pattern. Then, it was blackened and buffed for finishing look. The tea pick and tea rest were heated and smithed to shape with slightly polished look. Very pure copper tends to be reddish to purplish. Alloyed with zinc, copper becomes brass, while copper-nickel is silver in hue. Copper has many colours and multitudes of moods. Smithed, patterned, blackened and buffed by hand, no piece of copperwork emerges from the craftsman's lair looking or feeling the same as any other. How to care for copperware: Blackened copper is as low-maintenance as could be — just be sure it doesn't come in contact with highly acidic or highly alkaline substances.
