This is the "Mind Sketch" series, handwoven with Kenji Miyazawa's fairy tales as its theme.
We read "Kenju Koenrin" and wove its imagery by hand.
This is a handwoven book report.
Despite being ridiculed by everyone, Kenju continued to plant cedar trees and nurture them with care for many years. Over time, these trees grew into a magnificent park where everyone could find solace and children could play joyfully.
We have woven this piece with gentle colors, inspired by Kenju's pure image of facing his own beliefs honestly, and living in harmony with love and nature.
Width x Length: approximately 37cm x approximately 210cm (including fringe of about 1cm on the sides and tassels of about 6cm), weighing 197g.
Made primarily from merino wool, with additions of mohair and other fibers, it has a long length but a lightweight finish.
Though not noticeable in photos, very fine threads of gold and silver are subtly woven throughout the pale, bright color gradient.
This allows the fabric to glimmer delicately when light hits it.
As we combine several yarns of varying thicknesses to create the colors, each handwoven piece is one-of-a-kind.
After weaving, the fabric is washed thoroughly over an extended period. Therefore, the shrinkage rate is not uniform, and the width may vary slightly, but please understand this as part of the charm of handwoven textiles.
All finished handwoven pieces are thoroughly shrunk (washed well to remove dirt and enhance texture) and ironed.
They are then stored in non-woven fabric and wrapped in a turmeric-dyed furoshiki cloth, so they are ready to use immediately upon arrival without needing to be washed.
"Saori weaving" was proposed by Misao Jo as "a weaving of sensibility, expressing one's feelings at the moment."
