Bowl with Gold and Silver Accented Red Camellia

This bowl features a depiction of a red camellia blooming in the garden, as seen from the window of a pottery studio in early winter. The vibrant red camellia, painted with flair against a calm black glaze, creates a piece that evokes both Japanese beauty and the essence of the season. Crafted using Shigaraki clay, this bowl was shaped on a potter's wheel. The red camellia motif was meticulously hand-painted, layer by layer, before being fired. The glaze, mixed in our studio, was chosen to complement the natural colors of the flowers, with careful consideration given to how its hue would change after firing. Gold and silver accents have been added to enhance the camellia's splendor. The application of gold and silver is technically demanding, requiring precise control over temperature and humidity during the crafting process. The bowl fits gently and comfortably in the hand, with a smooth rim that feels pleasant against the lips.
