Vintage briar smoking pipe marked Bruyère Garantie

Vintage briar smoking pipe marked “Bruyère Garantie”, indicating the pipe is made from genuine briar wood. This marking was widely used by pipe makers in France and Belgium, particularly from the late 19th century through much of the 20th century. Briar, cut from the root of the heath tree (Erica arborea), became the preferred material for pipe making due to its durability and resistance to heat. The pipe features a classic rounded bowl with a slightly bent stem. The stem appears to be vulcanite or Bakelite, typical for pipes of this type. In used condition with visible wear from use, including bite marks on the stem and soot buildup in the bowl. Surface marks and discoloration are present consistent with age and handling.
