This small dish is crafted from red earthenware, offering a rustic texture and warmth, combined with a titanium matte glaze that creates a beautiful contrast between white and crimson. It was fired in a kerosene kiln at a local pottery studio, rather than the electric kiln typically used in my home studio. The firing process involved reduction firing, creating an oxygen-deficient environment within the kiln. This technique imparts a unique, deep character that cannot be achieved with an electric kiln. Measuring approximately 11cm in diameter, this small dish is perfectly sized. It can be used as a side dish plate, a sweet plate, for small portions of dishes like dressed tofu or simmered burdock root, or as a condiment dish. Its earthy tones harmonize particularly well with ingredients born from the soil. We hope you'll enjoy it with a variety of foods. All stages of production, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are done by hand in my home studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production is not possible, each piece has its own unique character, offering the distinct charm of handmade items. The item you receive will be the same as pictured. The base of the dish has been sanded to ensure it does not scratch your table. I continue to explore new combinations of glazes and clays, creating a diverse range of pottery in various colors and shapes. Each piece is unique, appearing similar but truly one-of-a-kind. In some cases, the glaze may become stained or moisture may seep through the crazing. To prevent this, we treat all our tableware with a food-safe sealant before shipping, so there is no need for a preliminary soaking (medome). This sealing process requires 2-3 days, which is why we set the shipping period to 5 days from order placement. If you do not require the sealant treatment, please inform us at the time of purchase. - We strive to photograph and edit product images to be as true to the actual item as possible. However, colors may appear differently depending on your monitor settings and lighting conditions.
