Her work "Abapolu" inspired the manifesto of Antropofagia and became an important representative of Brazilian nationalist artistic expression. Tarsila do Amaral created Ababolu in 1928 as a gift to Oswald de Andrade. The painting depicts a giant figure sitting next to a cactus with a lemon-shaped sun in the background, showing Brazil's unique natural landscape. The title of the painting is taken from the Aboriginal word "Abaporu", which means "eating people".
