This is a Kintsugi accessory using pottery crafted by Chi Murakami, who creates Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture. Pottery that can no longer be used is repurposed, combined with freshwater pearls and natural stones, and finished with Kintsugi to be reborn as accessories. Our concept is to reconnect people with nature and Japan's enduring traditions, transforming these pieces into modern accessories that bridge the past and future, creating new possibilities. We visited Chi Murakami's studio directly and were allowed to select the pottery pieces from broken or chipped vessels, destined to become industrial waste, that would serve as the foundation for our accessories. There were so many pieces with beautiful glaze colors, intricate paintings, and designs with an indescribable, mature feel to the clay; they truly seemed like treasures to me. They are "things no longer in use," but with a change in perspective, they transform into "newly valuable items." A charming piece of Kyo ware in a gentle, muted pink is paired with elegant freshwater pearls and the natural stone larimar. The impression is cute yet mature and sophisticated. Kintsugi is applied to the sides, making the gold stand out from every angle and adding a touch of refinement. Pottery and Kintsugi have a natural affinity, and since no two pieces are exactly alike in shape or pattern, each accessory feels truly special. This work uses a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional Urushi lacquer made from the sap of lacquer trees, we use a "new Urushi" that is less likely to cause allergic reactions, along with gold powder (brass powder) and UV resin for reinforcement. * We strive for meticulous craftsmanship, but some items may have slight imperfections such as adhesive or UV resin overflow, or uneven lacquer application. These are sometimes left as is to maintain structural integrity, or the mixture of lacquer and brass powder may not be perfectly uniform.
